More than 30 works of St. Margaret’s student photography are on display at the San Juan Capistrano Library, as part of an art exhibit organized by Amanda Albanese’s grade 9 advisory.

The advisory has partnered with the San Juan Capistrano Library for its service learning work this school year. The ongoing relationship led to the idea of organizing and curating artwork to display in the library’s gallery corridor. The advisory solicited submissions from fellow Tartans, prepared and matted the photography for display, and installed the artwork during their service-learning block.

“They decided on the theme of artist’s choice, which allowed our artists to make their own decision about which of their photographs would be displayed,” Ms. Albanese said. “The advisory students truly embraced their role of curators. They worked with the library, organized the photographs and spread the word to their fellow students about the exhibit. They did a great job.”

Several of the Tartan artists took part in a reception last weekend at the library, where they answered questions about their photographs, described their inspiration and explained how their creative process unfolded to members of the San Juan Capistrano community.

The art exhibit will be on display in the San Juan Capistrano Library through May 30. It is open to the public during library hours.
