The 16 students in the class split into teams of four to collaborate on business ideas.
Upper School entrepreneurial studies students pitched their start-up companies to two business experts, articulating ideas, value propositions, customer segments, cost structures and potential revenue streams.

The 16 students in the class split into teams of four to collaborate on business ideas. They ranged from a personalized superhero action figure to a unique shoe-shopping app to all-purpose sports cleats.

The final pitch was the conclusion of a unit in which students put their business ideas under a microscope through market research, interviewing potential customers, studying examples of entrepreneurial success stories and fine-tuning a polished presentation for investors.

Their products were pitched to experienced business and marketing leaders, who asked questions and offered thoughtful feedback on the students’ ideas.

Entrepreneurial studies is a semester-long elective that provides an experiential, real-world learning environment for students to develop an entrepreneurial skillset and mindset. Taught by Andrew Hammond and Ryan Dahlem, students studied and applied Lean Launchpad, Business Model Canvas and Design Thinking tools to understand the essential elements of a start-up company.
