Senior Joey Westendorf’s Research Paper Wins National History Day Competition

The 2,500-word paper was written as an assignment for her advanced historical research methods honors course, and she cited more than 30 sources.
 
St. Margaret’s senior Joey Westendorf’s research paper on the Nuremberg Trials was declared a winner in the National History Day Orange County competition.
 
Related to the NHD theme of “Triumph and Tragedy,” Joey wrote a 2,500-word research paper titled “The Nuremberg Trials: How International Justice Faced Triumphs and Tragedies in its Early Modern Implementation” The paper was written as an assignment for her advanced historical research methods honors course, and she cited more than 30 sources.
 
After submitting her paper, Joey was interviewed by two judges about her research methods. Her paper then advanced to the finals and eventually declared a winner in the Orange County competition. She joined winners in other categories ranging from documentaries to websites to exhibits.
 
NHD is a year-long educational program promoting historical scholarship in which students choose topics related to an annual theme and conduct extensive primary and secondary research using libraries, archives, museums and oral history interviews. 
 
Joey will travel to Sacramento and represent Orange County at the National History Day state competition next month.
