St. Margaret’s Celebrates Return of the Swallows to San Juan Capistrano During 61st Swallows Day Parade

St. Margaret’s school spirit and love for its historic hometown of San Juan Capistrano was on display during the parade.
St. Margaret’s school spirit and love for its historic hometown of San Juan Capistrano was on display Saturday, as more than 100 members of the school community marched in the 61st annual Swallows Day Parade celebrating the return of the swallows.

The Tartan procession was anchored by several St. Margaret’s girls athletics teams, including Tartan cheer team, the reigning U.S. Lacrosse Southern Section champion girls lacrosse team, the CIF State SoCal regional champion girls soccer team, and the Middle School state champion girls cross country team.

They were joined by Lower School Core Council students and their teachers Mrs. Spring, Mr. Beshk, Mrs. Beshk and Mrs. Mayer, Head of School Will Moseley, Assistant Head of School for Strategic Initiatives Ryan Dahlem and Middle School Principal Jeannine Clarke. Breakthrough San Juan Capistrano marched and cheered with inspiring signs led by director Alex Serna, and Special Camp, led by executive director Lindsay Eres and assistant director Stefani Baker, participated with a horse-drawn carriage marching the parade route.  The Tartan procession was once again led by the LA Scots Bagpipers, who fill the streets of San Juan with the powerful sounds of St. Margaret’s Scottish heritage each year.

St. Margaret’s has sponsored and participated in the Swallows Day Parade for many years. “The Swallows Day is a beloved tradition in our town and we treasure being a part of it! We value our deep connection to San Juan Capistrano and its important history and vibrant traditions. It contributes to the unique Tartan experience and we cherish our many opportunities to be involved and support our San Juan community, including the joyous marking of the return of the swallows each spring,” Mr. Moseley said.

In addition to celebrating the return of the Swallows, the parade pays tribute to the city’s Spanish, American Western and Juaneño Native American heritage. It is one of the largest non-motorized parades in the country.

A special thank you to all Tartans who supported this event and represented St. Margaret’s so wonderfully in the parade.
