Tartans Win Four National Medals in Prestigious Scholastic Art & Writing Competition
Their work was considered among the most exceptional out of more than 340,000 submissions from across the United States.
St. Margaret’s students won a total of four national medals for their acclaimed works in writing and visual arts in this year’s Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
St. Margaret’s junior Nadia Farjami, sophomore Isabel Lim and grade 8 student Sophia Karahalios were all honored for their work, which was considered among the most exceptional out of more than 340,000 submissions from across the United States.
Nadia won a gold medal in poetry for her work “Dirt” and also won a silver medal for her poem “In Color.” Isabel won a gold medal in photography for her piece “Concentration,” and Sophia won a silver medal in novel writing for her work “Court of Ruin.”
For winning gold medals, Nadia and Isabel are invited to attend a national ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June.
The national medalists represent less than 1 percent of the works of art and writing submitted. Work that earned gold keys at the regional level are considered for national recognition. St. Margaret’s had 19 total submissions to the national competition after a strong showing in the West Coast At-Large region.
