Girls Mountain “A” Basketball Team Wraps Up Successful Season

The Middle School girls basketball team advanced to the Parochial Athletic League championship game.
The St. Margaret’s Mountain “A” Middle School girls basketball team wrapped up a successful season this week with a hard-fought showdown against St. Hedwig in the championship game of the Parochial Athletic League playoffs. Despite cutting a halftime deficit down to one possession in the third quarter, the girls’ second-half comeback ultimately fell short.

This Mountain “A” team is a group of girls in grades 7 and 8 who are passionate about playing and learning the game. The team showed a great deal of perseverance to overcome injuries and illnesses throughout the season, but whoever stepped on the court gave 100 percent. After starting the season 4-0, the girls had a tough two-point loss to St. Edward’s but then won the rest of their regular season games to capture the co-league championship trophy. The playoffs featured a winter-break victory against St. John the Baptist and a convincing win over St. Edward’s before the championship showdown with St. Hedwig.

With more than half of this team comprised of grade 7 girls and a group of grade 6 students who also share the love of the game, the future is bright for Tartan girls basketball. Great season, Tartans!
