Girls Soccer Poised for Success in CIF-SS Postseason
The Division IV No. 1-ranked Tartans are ready for a deep playoff run.
St. Margaret's girls soccer program has compiled a 15-1-2 overall record while going 6-0 in the San Joaquin League and earning a No. 1 ranking in Division IV. The Tartans have outscored league opponents 35-0 and are looking to become the top-seeded team in the postseason.
St. Margaret's is led by junior goalkeeper Kennedy Barlow who has allowed only four goals in 17 matches (0.23 goals against average) and has 14 shutouts for the season. The back four is led by junior Charlotte Jones whose strength, organization and tactical acumen has given the Tartans a great advantage over their opponents. The leading scorers for St. Margaret's are junior Ella Kang (10 goals, 12 assists), junior Juliet Ballard (13 goals, 5 assists) and senior Lauren Otterbein (5 goals, 8 assists).
The Tartans will close out league play on the road against Sage Hill (Jan. 30) and Southlands Christian (Jan. 31) at home.
“Playing Sage Hill on their home patch is always a tough game for us. They are talented, they have a lot of pride and they are well-coached," said head coach Johnny Marmelstein. "Our girls know this and will come prepared for a tough contest. We need to finish well.”
The Tartans will travel next to take on non-league opponent Bishop Amat on Saturday, Jan. 26 at 5 p.m.
