Tartan Cross Country Programs Advance to CIF State Championships
St. Margaret's girls notch 2nd-place finish at CIF-SS Finals.
St. Margaret's cross country programs are headed to Fresno and the CIF State Championships after impressive results at the CIF-SS Finals on November 22.
The Tartan girls' squad finished in second place (1:37:52) in a tight and exciting race. The Tartans edged out third-place finisher Woodcrest Christian by one point and qualified for CIF State. St. Margaret's was led by Senior Joyce Li (18:37.1), who finished 10th overall. Sophomore Heidi Beshk (18:43.3) was right on Li's heels, finishing 12th. Sophomore Kate Sullivan (20:01.9), freshman Yumi Yeh (20:12.1) and Sophomore Megan Mohler (20:17.2) finished within 20 seconds of each other in 48th, 51st and 54th overall. Sophomore Addy Oh (21:16.9, 72nd) and Junior Cate Heyming (21:54.6, 86th) rounded out the girls' finishers.
St. Margaret's boys ran to a fourth-place finish in a very competitive and tightly matched field. The Tartans did a good job of getting out hard and finding their teammates early in the race, and maintained their team placement consistently throughout. Junior Zach Causee finished 8th overall at 15:05.5. Junior Samarth Wadhwa (15:39.1) finished 25th with sophomore Malcolm Capelle (15:48.0, 34th), and seniors Zaiden Gurusamy (15:49.4, 36th) and Ben Harrison (15:57.9, 40th) all finished within 10 seconds of each other. Sophomores Maddux Labovitch (16:16.6) and Jimmy Ye (17:20.7) closed out the team in 54th and 89th place.
The Tartans advance to the CIF State Championship in Fresno this upcoming Saturday, November 29th. The girls' team will race at 11:00 am, and the boys' team will race at 12:30 pm.
