Head of School Search Committee Update

After several months of candidate development led by our retained search partner, Spencer Stuart, we are now entering Phase 3 of our Head of School search process, engaging final candidates. Despite a highly competitive marketplace, where many well-established independent schools are actively searching for leadership roles, we are pleased to share that there are a large number of exceptionally qualified candidates interested in our opportunity. The search committee has spent the last month or so researching and discussing this pool of candidates with the experts from Spencer Stuart. We have learned a lot about how to benchmark other schools and Heads' of School experiences against the criteria in our own position spec and overall fit for our school. We have been extremely pleased with the level of talent and depth of experience among candidates interested in our role.

In April, the Search Committee will host confidential virtual meetings with a slate of eight highly qualified candidates. With Spencer Stuart’s direction and support, the Committee will undertake a constructive evaluation process guided by our position specification, which was informed by community inputs gathered through surveys conducted in December and January. The goal is to recommend a more narrow group of candidates for onsite visits with key stakeholders, and eventually the full Board of Trustees, in May/June.

This is an exciting part of the process and we, along with the rest of the Search Committee, are keenly focused on the serious task at hand. We are continuing to provide as transparent a process as possible, while also honoring confidentiality for our candidates. If you have any questions or want to discuss further, please don’t hesitate to reach out to one or both of us.

Best,
Cathy Stahl and Dana Sullivan
Search Committee Co-Chairs
