Head of School Search Committee Update - May 19

Dear St. Margaret's Community,

The Head of School Search Committee has been hard at work, and we are excited to provide an update on our progress.

The opportunity to lead St. Margaret’s has drawn a strong pool of candidates. Over the last few months in partnership with our search firm Spencer Stuart, the Head of School Search Committee has reviewed over 60 qualified candidate profiles, refining and attracting a highly qualified candidate pool amid a highly competitive market.

As previously communicated, the Committee met with an impressive slate of nine candidates for interviews in April.  More recently, the Committee conducted in-depth interviews with a select number of semifinalists.  As a guide to our interactions, the Committee focused our conversations on the themes that emerged from the school wide surveys and stakeholder discussions conducted at the launch of the search and summarized in our Head of School position specification. Additionally, we formulated specific follow up questions to further probe each candidate’s experience and capabilities. The Committee was impressed by the strength of the semifinalists, which included experienced heads of schools and senior administrators, all with varying degrees of leadership experience.

After the interviews and careful consideration of their credentials, the Committee unanimously selected three candidates to advance to the finalist stage.

These candidates will visit St. Margaret’s during the last week of May to meet with members of our parent, student, professional and trustee constituencies in closed meetings in order to maintain the candidates’ requested confidentiality and retain our competitive advantage to move quickly to secure our top choice. The candidates will also have some time to explore the beautiful San Juan Capistrano community.

The Committee will then carefully review the community’s feedback and factor it into our recommendation to the Board of Trustees, which is responsible for the final selection of the future Head of School. We will update you further once we have completed these visits, collected feedback, and the Board has completed its duty to select the next Head of School for St. Margaret’s.

Sincerely,

Search Committee Co-Chairs
