VIDEO: Tartans Create Apps in After-School Program

An after-school program dedicated to creating mobile game apps concluded its fall term, as 10 St. Margaret’s students grades 5-8 presented their work at a showcase on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. 
An after-school program dedicated to creating mobile game apps concluded its fall term, as 10 St. Margaret’s students grades 5-8 presented their work at a showcase featuring 23 teams from six schools on the campus of the University of California, Irvine. 

The program, called AppJam+, is a partnership between St. Margaret’s, UC Irvine and Dreams for Schools. Students met over 10 weeks to design and code a mobile game, working in teams of four or five to brainstorm ideas, delegate tasks and execute their design. They were guided by UC Irvine undergraduates studying computer science. 

The St. Margaret’s team of Celine Wang, Robert Helsing, and Audrey Kim were honored as Best Stage Presentation winners for their presentation of “The Great Chip War” app they created. The app requires answering math equations to defend the planet from Evil Mr. Frito.
