Girls Soccer and Boys Basketball Down Sage Hill

Girls soccer extended their Academy League unbeaten streak as boys basketball moved into first place by beating Sage Hill School on Friday.

St. Margaret’s girls soccer team remained unbeaten in the Academy League with a 4-0 victory over Sage Hill on Friday.

Junior Lauren Otterbein opened the scoring for the No. 7-ranked Tartans in the 16th minute on a cross from fellow junior Ella Kang. Kang, who notched two assists and a goal on the night, was instrumental in the win. Freshman Bryce Chan connected on a pass from Kang to score in the 45th minute while Lauren McCaffrey got on the board for the Tartans in the 53rd. Kang followed up with a goal just five minutes later to put the Tartans ahead 4-0.

The Tartans look to make it 21 straight Academy League victories on the road against Crean Lutheran this afternoon, January 16 at 3 p.m.

Boys Basketball

The Tartans turned in a solid team defensive effort on Friday night to defeat Academy League foe Sage Hill 71-49. Jay Phansalkar had a hot hand all evening, notching 22 points while Will Kenner had 19. Ryan Cragun ran the floor from the point guard position and kept the Lightning in check with aggressive defensive play.

With the win, the Tartans move into first place in the Academy League, tied with Crean Lutheran. St. Margaret's has been on a streak, winning its last eight out of 10 games and are undefeated in league. Play continues for the Tartans tonight at Crean Lutheran, 7:30 p.m.
