St. Margaret’s Lower School and Early Childhood School celebrated Diwali this week with special activities that educated students on the holiday’s significance in India and around the world.

Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights and takes place over several days during the new moon in the lunar month of Kartika.

Monday’s Lower School Chapel featured a video of several Lower School students sharing how their families celebrate Diwali each year. In addition, The Rev. Earl Gibson shared a homily about Diwali, and he and Lower School Principal Jennifer Blount lit a diya candle in honor of the holiday.

At lunch, Lower School students enjoyed music, cultural artifacts shared by families and samosas from Sattva Indian Cuisine.

In the Early Childhood School, there were Diwali-inspired reading and crafts activities, as well as a sampling of samosas.
