Our newest maker space on campus, the Middle School Design and Fabrication Lab integrates the arts with the development of science, technology, engineering and math skills and includes a laser cutter, milling machine, 3D printers and other new technologies.
The Design and Fabrication Lab is a place where students can experience the blending of the design, scientific, and artistic processes using a variety of materials and technologies. Adjoining the physical science lab, the industrial design of this versatile space inspires imagination and invention, facilitates creative collaboration and helps students explore the connections between STEM and the arts in solving complex problems.
Students utilize the design thinking process beginning with the identification of a problem, empathizing with users, ideating solutions, and prototyping their ideas using the technologies and variety of materials available. The Design and Fabrication lab also provides faculty with the opportunity to partner on the development of interdisciplinary projects.
