Library

St. Margaret’s Library is modern communal learning hub that serves students of every age. From the inviting front doors to the interactive storytelling rooms, the new Library Commons provides heightened flexibility in dedicated spaces to support students’ learning, research and study needs by allowing them to interact with rich media content and leading technology tools, work independently or collaboratively with classmates, and seek guidance from expert researchers and information specialists.

Students come to the Library to access information, literature and resources. Beyond a deep collection of books, magazines, newspapers, audiobooks and dvds, the Library Commons provides a gateway to a vast catalog of credible web-based resources. The St. Margaret’s Library program specializes in providing access to resources, tools for learning and expert guidance to research, analyze, and navigate the endless information at our children’s fingertips.

Our students also need specific dynamic and introspective learning and studying places. From collaborative, flexible and comfortable work areas to “cave” spaces that provide learners with solitude and quiet where they can get comfortable, focus and work independently, the Library Commons is configured to meet the diverse learning styles of the 21st Century student. Reading lounges provide comfortable places for readers of all ages.

The Library Commons promote literacy, develop a culture and love of reading, and ultimately cultivate self-interest and skills in storytelling, whether it is written, oral or visually presented. Research guides that information conveyed through a story is more memorable, meaningful, impactful and enduring. Writing, presenting and storytelling are highly desirable and needed skills in the 21st Century. In the Storymaking and Storytelling spaces students access leading technology and tools to create digital stories and presentations, from storyboarding and drafting, to filming and editing, as well as interactive presentation practice space for perfecting.

Libraries all over the world are grappling with their futures in a technologically advancing world. The St. Margaret’s Library Learning Commons is a vital, essential learning space, the heartbeat of our learning community, now more than ever.
