The Artistry of Christmas Fills the PAC in December

The Winter Dance Concert, Christmas Instrumental and Choral Concert and the PTF Arts Alliance helped make the Performing Arts Center a festive month-long celebration of the holidays.
The All-School Dance Concert on Saturday, Dec. 3 featured 225 dancers from preschool through grade 12. The program included 11 student-choreographed dances along with an array of dancers choreographed by dance faculty and collaborations between teachers and students.

Christmas Instrumental and Choral Concert

The Christmas Instrumental and Choral Concert involved 185 students. The performance opened with the MS-auditioned Tartan Chorale followed by the MS Orchestra presenting Christmas Suite.

The Highlander Chorale Women sang pieces from A Ceremony of Carols before the Upper School Orchestra and the Highlander Chorale combined to present selections from Bach, Mozart and Handel.

The Middle School Jazz Ensemble, Upper School Jazz Ensemble and Concert Band also took to the stage for their sets. The pieces included Christmas classics such as “White Christmas,” with featured vocalist Nia Matty from grade 11 and “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” with featured vocalists Daniela Luna, grade 12 and Miranda Gilbert, grade 10. Senior Kenneth Brown provided a saxophone solo during “O Holy Night.”

PTF Arts Alliance Decorates the Foyer

The Performing Arts Center foyer has once again been transformed with holiday decorations by the creative members of the PTF Arts Alliance. This year’s decorations are inspired by the theme, “Harmony” as evidenced in the ornaments and other display items that represent the settings of this year’s theater productions. The US play, Boeing! Boeing!, is represented by airplane ornaments and a flight attendant costume next to the tree. The upcoming MS Play will be Anne of Green Gables, and there is a train underneath the tree to help depict one of the settings from the show. The MS Musical Lion King Jr., is visible in African-themed ornaments and a Broadway poster replica hanging near the tree. The Lower School grades 4 and 5 musical, Fantastic Mr. Fox is represented on the tree with foxes and farm produce.

There are musical instruments, dance-themed ornaments, and visual art pieces representing the various creative elements that students enjoy as part of the Arts of St. Margaret’s.
