St. Margaret’s STEM Club Goes Off-Campus for California Science Center Visit

The trip was organized by STEM club president Natalie Yee with the help of Upper School math teacher Elizabeth O’Shea and other faculty, as a way to advance the mission of the STEM club to show and experience the fun of math and science.
St. Margaret’s STEM club spent their Sunday exploring science and technology and how it’s being used around the world, when they visited the California Science Center in Los Angeles.

The trip was organized by STEM club president Natalie Yee with the help of Upper School math teacher Elizabeth O’Shea and other faculty, as a way to advance the mission of the STEM club to show and experience the fun of math and science.

Natalie said the main highlight of the trip was “The Science Behind Pixar” exhibit which went in-depth with the technology, math, programming and art that goes into the creation of animated movies.

“It was super interesting,” Natalie said. “We learned a lot about the long process that goes behind all the animation in Pixar movies.”

Natalie was joined on the trip by Upper School students Layla Shakerin, Gilbert Chung, Gillian Mann and Joey Westendorf. Besides learning about the STEM-related concepts of computer-animated films, the club learned more about the current innovation in space travel, visited the space shuttle Endeavour exhibit and watched the Journey to Space IMAX movie.
