Preschool, Middle School Students Come Together to Enjoy Lion King Jr. Preview

Members of the musical’s cast introduced themselves before Darcy Rice gave the students an inside look at the production.
St. Margaret’s preschool students filled the first rows of the Performing Arts Center on Monday, at full attention as Director of the Arts Darcy Rice presented a behind-the-scenes look at the Lion King Jr. before the first public performances on Thursday. They were escorted into Hurlbut Theater by Grade 8 students, who chatted and shared stories with the younger Tartans before the start of the presentation.

“We have been talking about ways for our divisions to come together,” Middle School Principal Jeannine Clarke said. “We thought this was the perfect opportunity for Preschool students to really enjoy something that Middle School students have been working hard on.”

Members of the musical’s cast introduced themselves before Mr. Rice gave the students an inside look at the production, including a closer look at the 3D-printed masks that the performers use in the musical, as well as showing students the Pride Rock set that was built in-house.

The preschool students were then joined by the rest of the Middle School, and the two divisions enjoyed a preview of three scenes from The Lion King Jr., including two musical performances that the preschool Tartans particularly enjoyed.

There will be four public showings of The Lion King Jr.: Thursday at 7 p.m., Friday at 5 p.m., and Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
