Both the Mountain “A” and Mountain “B” Middle School volleyball teams completed their league seasons last week with league championship titles.

The Mountain “B” team, coached by Susie Maga, had a competitive season with several matches going to the deciding third game. The team’s last match was a battle for first place against St. Edward School in Dana Point. After losing the first game, the boys rallied to take the second game and progressed to the deciding third game. The game went back and forth with the Tartans making some aggressive defensive plays and key serves pulling it out 15-13.

The Mountain “A” team, also Coached by Coach Maga, had a little easier ride to the title with only a few matches pushed to the third game. A pivotal game for the team was a three-set match against Mission Hills Christian School. It was a tense and close match all the way through with each point earned after several well played rallies. Once again it came down to the crucial third game and the boys come away with the win.

The team also traveled to St. Catherine School in Laguna Beach and posted a win to solidify the title. “With the lights out due to a power outage in the city, the teams opened up all the doors and used the natural light to play the match. It was a lucky thing the boys were able to get it done in two games as the sun may have not held up for a third game,” said Middle School Athletic Coordinator Lori Fava.

The Mountain “A” team will begin playoffs with a first round game against St. John the Baptist Thursday, May 5 at St. Margaret’s. As back to back defending P.A.L Champions, the team is working hard to make it a three peat.
