Welcome Back and Welcome Home! St. Margaret’s Opens 2016-17 School Year

The school year opens with 1,234 students, including 189 new students from 114 new families.
With the familiar, and popular, greeting from Head of School William Moseley—“I see you and I am glad that you are here!”—St. Margaret’s Episcopal School officially started the 2016-2017 school year with the All School Opening Ceremony today in the Pasternack Field House.

"Welcome back, welcome home!" Mr. Moseley said.

The school year opens with 1,234 students, including 189 new students from 114 new families. There are 45 new students with siblings already enrolled at St. Margaret’s, as well as 21 new members of the St. Margaret’s faculty and staff.

Special mention was made of the Class of 2031, enrolling in preschool this year, as well as the Class of 2017 who is attending their last All School Opening Ceremony today.

Mr. Moseley also laid out three school-wide goals that align with St. Margaret’s mission of educating the hearts and minds of young people for lives of learning, leadership and service. The goals are:

-- The first goal, under Learning, is to create a culture of innovation through implementing the strategic plan.

-- The second goal, under Leadership, is to implement cultural competency skills that have been developed.

-- The third goal, under Service, is to expand St. Margaret’s Day of Service to include parents and students with a focus on strengthening our ties with local organizations in San Juan Capistrano.

“The greatest, Muhammad Ali, said ‘Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth.’” Mr. Moseley said. “The power of positive relationships, the value of community and the influence and importance of love in the work we do cannot be overstated. All of this is upheld through the fundamental respect and kindness that is owed to every member of our community and to every person we encounter beyond our campus.”

Best wishes to all for a successful 2016-2017 school year. Go Tartans!
