Tartan Baseball Battles in CIF Playoff Action
Posted May 22
The Varsity Baseball team finished the regular season in second place in the Academy League. The season came down to a last game showdown with Oxford Academy who has appeared in the CIF Championship game the last three years winning two. This was due in part to a two out 7th inning walk off home run by Harrison White in the game against Oxford three days earlier.
The Tartans played their first round CIF playoff game at home against St. Anthony of Long Beach on Thursday May 17th, and won again in dramatic fashion. After good pitching performances from Chaz Williams and Harrison White, the game was competitive until the end. With a two run lead heading into the 6th inning, two Tartan errors allowed St. Anthony to tie the score with the Tartans heading up to bat. With two outs, Martin Burke reached first base on an error. He then stole second base on the very first pitch. With two strikes, Carter Jahn delivered the game winning base hit scoring Martin easily. Harrison White’s pitching and the Tartan defense held St. Anthony in the 7th inning to secure the victory.
Following the upset of Bishop Diego in the first round, the Tartans will travel to Los Angeles on Tuesday May 22nd to take on Windward at 3:30 pm who finished third in their league and enter the playoffs as a wild card.
