Four Tartan Teams Finish First in CIF-SS Academic Awards

This year’s winners of the CIF Southern Section Academic Awards program have been announced. The team awards are based on a cumulative grade point average and are awarded in 22 different sports. Boy’s and girl’s lacrosse is excluded because it has less than 20 percent of the CIF-SS membership needed to be eligible as per Blue Book Article 3200.3 of the CIF-SS. To be considered, teams must have a combined minimum GPA of 3.0 or better on a scale of 4.0 in college prep courses in the first semester of the 2011-2012 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport determines the overall winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories, schools with an enrollment of 1499 and below and 1500 and above. The team with the highest GPA in each enrollment category for each sport is declared the winner. There were 1,323 entries submitted to the CIF this year. Last year we had our baseball team and girls’ golf team finish in first place.

The Tartans this year have four teams that earned the prestigious honor of finishing in first place. The girls’ basketball team with a 3.853 GPA , the girls’ golf team with a 3.730 GPA , the girls’ track and field team with a 3.744 GPA, and the wrestling team with a 3.625 GPA. In addition to finishing in first place, the Women’s Southern California Golf Association (WSCGA) awards the top three schools a grant for their achievement and our girls’ golf team will receive a $500.00 grant. Below is a list of all of our teams along with their GPA’s and where they finished.
