Successful Weekend for Tartan Cheerleaders

The Tartan Cheerleaders were among the 325 cheerleaders who attended the National Cheerleaders Association's camp from July 12-15 at the University of California San Diego. The four days at camp were spent learning chants, cheers and dances and improving stunting skills. Daily evaluations by the NCA staff gave cheerleaders helpful suggestions for improvement.

The final day of camp consisted of competitions, evaluations and awards. Cheer Coach Jamie McCann is proud to announce that the SMES cheerleaders left the awards ceremony with the Varsity Top Team Chant Award, Varsity Top Team Cheer Award, two Spirit Sticks and bids to compete in the NCA National Competition for both the Varsity and Junior Varsity squads.

Eight Tartan Cheerleaders were nominated by the NCA Staff to tryout for the All American Cheerleading Team. After tryouts senior Ashley Davis, junior Macey Davis and freshman Nicole Fava were awarded spots on the team. Ashley Davis was honored with the Top All American Cheerleader Award for scoring the most points of all nominated cheerleaders for the second year in a row. The other cheerleaders nominated for the team were Varsity cheerleaders Bella Carracino, Kathryn Garcia and Kati Wechsler and JV cheerleaders Hannah Ghavami and Morgan Higgins.
