Tech Tips

                                                                                               Mistakes Are A Drag!

Have you ever made a mistake while filling out a form on a web page or in a software program? If you're like me, you occasionally find that you've put information in the wrong box.

Most people would just sigh, delete the error, then re-type it in the appropriate box. But there's an easier way to transfer information from one place to another. Just highlight the text that's in the wrong location and drag it to its proper place (box).

BTW - This works with more than just forms. If you are re-doing a table in a word processing program, you can do the highlight, drag & drop thing too!

One last thing. You can highlight any text in a word processor and drag it to a new location. Lots faster than copy & paste.

Did You Know?:

Q: I really like personalizing my desktop. Is there any way to change the names of the My Documents, My Computer or My Pictures folders to something I want instead?

A: What? My Documents isn't personal enough for you? If not, you can change the name of any of the My folders (documents, computer, pictures, music) and (I always love this part), it's soooo easy! Here's what you do:

  • Click on the Start button.
  • Right click on any of the My folders you want to re-name.
  • Select rename.
  • Type in the name you want.
  • Click outside the dotted box and voila! The folder is customized.

National Military Appreciation Month - May 2004

May is National Military Appreciation Month in which those on active duty in all branches of the services, the National Guard and Reserves plus retirees, veterans, and all of their families are recognized. Also honored are those Americans who have given their lives in defense of our nation's freedom.

In the City of Orange, a 15 year old student at Lutheran High School, Shauna Fleming, is heading up a community service project which consists of collecting one million cards and letters of appreciation to all service members, past and present, by May 31. If you want more information or would like to help out, visit her website at www.amillionthanks.org.

Gas Buddy

Hey good buddy! If you're old enough to remember CB radios truck drivers used to use to help each other out, Gas Buddy is a kind of cyber-CB system for anyone interested in finding the cheapest gas in town.

How does it work? Simply choose your location (either the province or state you live in) and it will give you a listing of cities. Choose your city, or the city nearest you, and you will get real time gas prices from all over your area. This site will save you time driving around trying to find the cheapest gas in town. Prices are posted and updated by anyone who spots prices at stations along their driving route. Membership is free but not necessary in order to use the site.

Gas Buddy can also help you find cheap gas for road trips. Don’t you hate paying a lot for gas and then finding out if you had driven ten minutes more you would have gotten it for ten cents a gallon cheaper? Well, use gas buddy and it won’t happen to you anymore.
