Graphing- Step 1
  •    Once you have entered the Chart Wizard, you can choose what type of graph you want to make. You can preview the Graph by clicking and holding on the button that says “Press and hold to View Sample” with your mouse.  Once you are satisfied, click on the Next button.

  • Choose between rows or columns for your graph. Columns are usually a better choice. You can compare and contrast the two.

  • Now, you can enter more information that you want to have on your graph.
  • The title is simply a title for your graph.
  • The “X Axis Label” is the label on the bottom set of data.
  • The “Y Axis Label” is the label on the left side.
  • When you are done, click on Axes.

  • In Axes, you can choose whether or not you want a category label for your X and Y axis.
  • Uncheck the “boxes” if you do not want labels on either or both of the axes.
  • You will be able to see a preview of how it will look like.
  • Once you are satisfied, click on “Gridlines” for further options.

    • Choose between major or minor gridlines for either axis.
    • Only leave all boxes unchecked if you do not want any axis lines.
    • You can have any combination of the four
    • Once you are satisfied, click “Legend”.

  • Here you can choose whether or not you want a legend.
  • You can also choose where you want your legend to be positioned.
  • When you are done, click on Data Labels.

  • Choose whether you want to have a data table to show the data on your graph.
  • You will have another option if you choose the data table.
  • This option, is “Show Legend Key” and lets you choose whether you want to color code your data to the corresponding bar on the graph.
  • Check the box if you would like that.
  • Once you are satisfied, click “Next”.

  • If you want your graph on a New Sheet, you would click on the circle next to “As New Sheet”.
  • Then, you can name the sheet whatever you’d like.
  •  You can also place it in an already existing sheet, by clicking on the circle next to “As Object In”.
  • Once you are satisfied, click “Finish”.

Editing Your Graph
  • There are many different kinds of charts you can experiment with.
  • Some include pie charts and cylinder charts.
  • The rest of the graphs are up to you to discover.
  • Each one may be a better choice depending on the data.

  • Now that you are done with the basic graph, you can still  change your mind about several things.
  •  For one, you can change the name of the sheet by double clicking on the actual sheet name.

  •    You can also add color to your graph and enhance it to make it look more interesting and colorful….like this.

  •    Double click on the area that your mouse is over, and a menu should pop up that is titled “Format Data Series”. This is the first step to adding color to your graph.

  •    Now that the menu has come up, you can choose basic colors, and border styles.  To choose the color that you want, just click on it. For more options, click on “Fill Effects…”

  •    Once you have clicked on “Fill Effects…”, a whole new menu will pop up.  From here, you can just click experimentally on all of the options, each one changes the preview picture to what it will be if you chose that option.

  •     The Dark/Light arrows changes the shade of the color that is used. This option allows you to blend two colors to make a two color shade. Preset on the other hand has predetermined designs that you can choose from by clicking on the drop down menu.  Click on “Texture” for further options.

  •    Click on the texture that you like, and a preview of it will appear in the bottom right of the menu.  If you have other textures saved on your computer already, you can click on “Other Texture…” to select those.  Click on “Pattern” for further options.

  •     Click on the pattern that you like, and a preview of it will appear in the bottom right of the menu.  You can change the color of your pattern by clicking on the downward arrows near the words “Foreground”, and “Background”.  Click on the color that you like, and the preview will change accordingly.  Click, on “Picture” for further options.

  • If you have a picture on your hard drive, click on “Select Picture”. Then you can browse through your folders for a picture you’d like. Stretch will stretch one copy of the image to completely fill the selected area. You can also choose stack and stack the pictures to fill a space, as many as you’d like.  When you have selected your fill effect, click “OK”.  You can use this procedure for any object or area.

The Toolbar
  •   The toolbar is a convenient way to change the graph. You can double click on something you’d like to change, but the toolbar is faster.
  •    If you cannot find your toolbar, click here.

  • You can quickly change your graph type easily.
  • Click on the “Chart Type” button. This will open up selections for your graph.
  • Once you have clicked on one you like, your graph will change accordingly.

  • This button is called the Legend button. If you click on it, you can toggle between having a legend or not.

  • The button indicated to the right is currently selected, because there is a data table on the graph.  If you click it again, the data table will disappear.

  • The “By Column” button indicated to the right is selected because the graph is currently “By Column.”  You can click on the “By Row,” button to choose to have your graph “By Row.”
