AP U.S. History Course Description

This course is designed to provide students with the analytical skills and factual knowledge necessary to deal critically with America's history. Students will learn to assess historical materials-their relevance to a given problem, their reliability, and their importance-to weigh the evidence presented in historical scholarship. In addition, students will be required to analyze and interpret primary and secondary sources, including documentary materials, maps, statistical tables, graphs, and pictorial evidence of historical events. Students will learn to take notes from lecture and discussion, and to write position based thesis statements and analytical essays using both free response and document-based forms.
