Library Guide for Wireless Laptops

The SMES PTF has generously donated 5 laptops to be available for use to Middle / Upper School SMES students and faculty in the library. The Dell laptops are equipped with wireless networking cards and a CD-R.  The model features Microsoft Windows XP, which includes Microsoft Office applications and wireless access to the Internet. The Laptops can be used only inside the library. They will be available
at the circulation desk to any SMES students with a current student ID.

  • Laptops are renewable for another hour if no one is waiting for them.
  • The laptop must not be left unattended. You are solely responsible for the laptop while it is checked out to you and you will be accountable for any damage, loss, or theft.
  • Laptops cannot be taken outside the Library.
  • Laptops cannot be checked out after 4:00 pm M-TH, 3:00pm Friday.

    http://www.smes.org/technology/policies.htm

Log On to the Laptop

Log on to the laptop the same way as on a regular computer, by using your username and password.

Saving Your Work

Save your work often! The battery should last for the two-hour loan period, but intensive CPU and
hard drive activities will deplete the battery more quickly.

  • Save your document to your personal folder on the SMES network, or personal USB device but not to the laptop hard drive.
When you return the laptop, all the files on it will be erased. It is essential that you save your work to your personal folder on the SMES network or personal USB device.

You will not be able to print your work from the laptops.

Proper Handling

·         Do not carry the laptop while it is still powered ON.
