The chapel readings appear in two different versions. One
version will be the New Revised Standard Version (also known as
the NRSV). The NRSV is considered by many scholars and
faithful people to be one of the most accurate, direct
translations from the original languages used to write the first
Bibles. The second version of the Bible we will use this year
is called The Message. The Message was
paraphrased over a period of ten years, straight from the
Bible’s original languages. The idea of The Message is
to make the Holy Scriptures more readable—to faithfully put the
ancient words of scripture into words that we speak and write
every day. Many churches have found The Message to be a
great biblical source for those reading the bible for the first
time or those who have found it difficult to read a more
traditional direct translation. The NRSV will appear first,
followed by The Message. Unless otherwise instructed by
one of the chaplains, the reader is free to choose which of the
two posted versions they will use when they do the reading in
chapel. |
